Policies (effective as of March 16,2026)
Your participation in the operations of DBH, whether as a student, parent, or volunteer, constitutes your agreement to abide by the following Policies of DBH, including any amendments thereto that may be made from time to time. The operative Policies at any time shall be those communicated and published on this website:
General, Parent, and Student Responsibilities
DBH is a Ministry of Discovery Bible Church, not a school: You understand and agree that DBH is a ministry and outreach program of Discovery Bible Church. DBH is not accredited as a school, charter school, private school, or anything similar, and your child’s participation at DBH is not intended to be and is not a replacement or substitute for you satisfying any legal requirement you may have to educate your children according to applicable Washington law. Parents remain fully responsible for overseeing and directing the education of their children notwithstanding their children’s attendance at any classes provided by DBH and its volunteer teachers. DBH does not maintain or offer transcripts or attendance records, although individual teachers may choose to do so, without having any obligation to do so.
Hours: DBH’s hours for family attendance are between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Mondays when homeschool is in session. Classes begin at 9:30 a.m. and end by 2:40 p.m. DBH activities will not take place outside attendance hours, so families should schedule their arrivals and departures with attendance hours in mind.
Information table: An information table will be set up in the foyer. Each family will have a family folder labelled with their last name. Please make sure to check your folder every week for news or class items from teachers. If you have information you would like to share at the information table, it must first be approved by the directors.
Email: Email is the main form of communication with DBH families. It is your responsibility to ensure that DBH at all times maintains a current, valid email address that can be used to reach you. Please check your email regularly to stay updated with information and co-op events.
Contacting DBH: Please use the email [email protected] if you need to contact the co-op. We will be checking the email regularly.
Social Events & Field Trips: Off-campus field trips or social events organized by parent or teacher volunteers are not considered to be activities of DBH, unless endorsed and approved in advance by a written decision of all three directors.
Absences: Unplanned absence due to illness or emergency – Please notify the directors by email or website as soon as you know you will be absent so we can cover your jobs for the day. Teachers, please also communicate a class plan if you are able.
Planned absence – Please inform the directors of any planned absences so we can cover your jobs for the day. Teachers, please make sure to give teaching materials and information to one of the directors (Alisa Stigter, Robin Nelson, or Betsey McGuire) as far as possible ahead of time so we can find a substitute for you.
Background Checks: All volunteers (except for High School drop off students) must pass a satisfactory background check prior to commencing volunteer work with DBH. Volunteers agree to keep DBH directors informed within 7 calendar days of any change to any information previously provided to DBH on their most recent background check form. Volunteers agree to renewal of their background checks from time to time whenever necessary or appropriate in the discretion of the DBH directors or the leadership of Discovery Bible Church.
Visitors: Visitors sponsored by a DBH teacher or DBH director may visit during DBH hours either to observe or to assist a teacher. Every visitor must sign in at the front table and wear a name tag for the duration of their presence on the premises. Repeat visitors may be required by the directors or the leadership of Discovery Bible Church to complete a background check form.
Chapel/Lunch: Chapel – Chapel will be held in the Sanctuary between 11:40 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., after second period classes and before lunch. Parents and students who are present are required to attend. Families will come together to sing to the Lord, hear important announcements, have devotions, and pray for our school day. We encourage families to sit together and towards the front of the room.
Lunch –Lunch is only to be eaten in the lunch area during lunchtime. Students are to stay in the designated lunch areas during this time (gym and patio). Parents are responsible for making sure that their children clean up after themselves. We will also have the Pledge of Allegiance during this time.
Pets: No animals are allowed on the church premises, with the exception of ADA service animals
Inclement weather/Emergency closures: If Peninsula School District is closed or delayed, co-op classes will be cancelled for the entire day. School delays and closures are announced on the Peninsula School District website. DBH will also attempt to send out an email in the event of a closure, but follow the PSD website even if you don't receive an email.
Lost and Found: Items that are left behind at co-op will be stored and displayed the next Monday. Whatever is not picked up at the end of every month will be donated to charity.
Nursery/Playroom: The nursery/playrooms are available during the hours you are registered at DBH. These rooms are for children from birth to 4 years old. You must register your child to secure a spot in the nursery as there is limited space. Please be considerate and pick up your children promptly, including for Chapel and lunchtime. Babies need to remain in the nursery. They are not allowed in the classrooms at any time. Diaper changing and nursing should be done only in the nursery. Only parents may change diapers or assist children in the restroom.
Study Hall: Study Hall is for children who can read, study, or work on their own assignments quietly. The study hall tables are to be used when your children are not in a regular class. Students must be officially registered for Study Hall and parents must provide enough work to keep them independently occupied for the duration of class time.
High School Drop Off: Students aged 14 and up may be eligible for regular drop-off without a parent staying at DBH during the day, if this arrangement is requested and approved in advance in writing by a decision of all three directors. Directors will make a case-by-case decision on any such requests. Students who have been dropped off or who are present without a parent under this rule will be expected to assist DBH in place of their parent and will be assigned a job by one of the directors that they will need to agree to perform each day while at DBH.
Class Requirements: Be sure to check the age requirements and prerequisites before registering for a class. Students must be the age stated in the class outlines by the first day of co-op classes (September 14, 2026). Please read class descriptions carefully to be sure your child is able to handle the homework and requirements of all the classes you choose. Teachers reserve the right to require those students not fully participating in class, or regularly being disruptive, to drop that class.
Payment: Registration - A $75 non-refundable registration fee (per family) is due to complete registration. This is to be paid to Discovery Bible Church via cash or online payment.
Material Fees - Class fees are broken down into two payments throughout the year: 1st Semester Materials Fees and 2nd Semester Materials Fees. Please check the Co-op calendar for due dates. All payments associated with classes must be paid to Discovery Bible Church, via cash or online payment.
Class Adds and Drops: Class changes may be made until 4 weeks after classes start. After that date only students on waiting lists may add classes. Changes must be requested at least one week in advance of the requested change date. In the event that a student is withdrawn from a class, unspent material fees attributed pro-rata to the child will be refunded until 4 weeks after classes start. In the case of a changed class, material fees for the added class are due immediately.
Teachers: Teachers do not necessarily have formal instruction as teachers. Teachers determine their own course content and materials. Teachers must agree with the DBH Mission Statement. Teachers must be approved after an interview by the directors during which they will be asked to give a testimony of their Protestant Christian faith that is sufficient to establish to the directors’ satisfaction that the teacher’s personal religious beliefs substantially align with the beliefs of Discovery Bible Church, and teachers must agree to abide in their teaching with the Discovery Bible Church’s Statement of Faith. Teachers are not employed as teachers by DBH or Discovery Bible Church, but are volunteers assisting the DBH ministry.
Teacher Assistants: Volunteer teacher assistants will assist teachers in their teaching as may be helpful to the teacher. TAs will not teach classes as a substitute for the teacher and do not need to meet the requirements for being a teacher.
Substitute Teachers: Any individual approved by the directors as a teacher may substitute for another teacher on an as-needed basis, with prior approval of the directors.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Parental participation is mandatory. No student will be allowed at DBH without a parent present, unless they have received prior permission from leadership.
By registering your family for DBH, you agree to complete your assigned parent job(s) each Monday during the assigned periods. You may also be called upon to help with other jobs from time to time during the year if additional help is needed, even if you are not assigned a job during any particular hour. It is important to be on time for all jobs.
If you are unable to fulfill your assigned job(s) due to absence, it is your responsibility to inform the directors as far in advance as possible so they can find a replacement for you.
During co-op, all parents should be at their job or in the parent area in the foyer.
Children are not allowed in classes they are not registered for; this includes siblings. If you have children in public or private school, they may not attend DBH on days they are out of school.
Do not send your child to class during the contagious stages of any illness, within 24 hours of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. Students with head lice or nits must remain at home until they are fully treated and free of lice and nits.
Do not socialize with other parents during class. Please refrain from being on your cell phone while serving as a TA in class. Teachers reserve the right to ask parents disturbing their class to leave.
Parents will be contacted if a disciplinary problem arises involving their child and may be asked to remove their child from class or from DBH that day. Parents are responsible for their children’s actions and behavior and should supervise their children whenever a child is not in class
Instruct your child(ren) not to damage church property including but not limited to graffiti (for example, on tables, in bathroom stalls). You are responsible for damage caused by your child.
All DBH families must agree to abide by these rules. Repeated violations by any family members are grounds for expulsion of the entire family's participation in DBH.
Failure to comply with parent policies will jeopardize your privilege to participate in the DBH program.
